Do I send my child to Kindergarten or do another year of preschool ?

The great debate every year, it is so hard sometimes to know. I always say go with your best Moms Intuition. If you are on the fence, here is a little more advice to help you figure that out.

I have never heard a parent say they regretted taking their time. But I have heard them say they regretted not giving them more time.

Consider both sides of the Social Aspect (Elementary through High School) …Now being the youngest and at 17 leaving for College, Socially Behind, Driving, Dating, Wearing Makeup, Puberty or Oldest in class and leaving for College…more Mature, Boredom=being a Helper, Leader, More Responsible, …. It’s amazing the difference a year can make on both ends of the spectrum.

Give the Gift of being a Kid another year to mature, Social is such a huge need right now in their lives for development, play, having fun. They have the rest of their life to be pushed.

Yes, a Good Teacher will challenge them and help them grow. Look into the curriculum, talk to the teachers, explain concerns. Step outside your own views as the Mom and consider how your child socializes with others, without you present, maturity level. Does your child approach other children without your coaxing? Do they have “wings” without their ‘Mothering’ environment? As a parent you understand these qualities, but do you picture your child in a classroom doing this for themself? Education in Elementary can be rough. Your child can be borderline ready, half their peers on a pre-k level and 2-3 with extreme behaviors that are being tested and may “control” the classroom with hitting, biting, and screaming…thoughts to consider. As a teacher we want 100% for all students, but sometimes that is hard to manage in our schools right now. What will give your child the most success now and in the future? I know It’s tough sometimes when you are on the fence...talk to the teachers, preschool and Kindergarten and make an educated choice for YOUR child and I think you will get the answer you need.
